As it stands the Mac OS really needs PMT and I am currently not real optimistic about OSX. Yeah, it's strictly anecdotal (sp?) evidence but I've never had big problems with a Mac (or a Windows machine for that matter) that I've been able to set up myself. I can't recall what system I was running 5 years ago but I never had those kind of problems. All in the realm of print production so they were usually Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, PageMaker, Freehand, and yes, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. In response to that, over the past 5 years I have consistently had multiple programs open and moved data between them. It's as if the OS got confused by the notion of me wanting to do more than one thing at a time, and just decided to take everything down with it.

Since they were slow as it is, switching between Word and IE to copy and paste resulted in OS 8 spitting out Type 2 errors and/or bomb icons.

I'm not sure about how it is with the faster Macs (G3 400+, G4), but on older PowerMacs, it was a living nightmare. That was on a 68030 machine though (8-9 years ago). In my limited experience with things like 3D rendering it was usually necessary to make it an exclusive process.
